A Bolder Hue: Add Color Into Your Eyeshadow Looks

A Bolder Hue: Add Color Into Your Eyeshadow Looks

Now is the best time to have fun with your eyes! With masks covering half our faces, creative eye makeup looks can make the new normal a little less boring.

My relationship with makeup started when I was in fifth grade. It was at the height of my obsession with anime that eventually led me into cosplaying. I started teaching myself how to do my own makeup through YouTube tutorials and studying my favorite cosplayers’ work.

Now, makeup has become such a huge part of my life. It’s my stress reliever and form of self-expression. It’s only fairly recently that I’ve started experimenting with eyeshadow looks after watching this HBO series called Euphoria. Since then, it has become one of my favorite things to do. One of the reasons why I love doing it especially nowadays is because it doesn’t get covered by a mask!

All you need is a good, colorful eyeshadow palette (or two), and eye makeup brushes (an eyeshadow packing brush, a blending brush, and a small angled brush should do the trick!).

Here are some eyeshadow looks that will hopefully inspire you to start playing with color, just ‘cause!

Simple & Wearable Orange

I feel like this one is a great introduction to the fun world of color! Orange is the perfect color to start out with because it’s toned down yet noticeable. This would be a good everyday makeup look.

First, I started with a light, peachy color on the crease with a blending brush. I then took a rusty orange shade and packed that on from the middle of the eyelid to the outer corners of the eyes. Then, I put a bright, pinky-peach color on the inner parts of the eyelids and popped a little bit of a shimmery pearl color on the inner corners of the eyes. I tied it all together by using the same rusty orange on the outer corners of the lower lash lines and blended it out.

Feeling Blue

An effective way to play with color on the eyes is to take a bold color and marry it with your safe everyday shades, which is what I’ve done with this halo eye look.

I started with a soft pink shade on the crease with a blending brush. Then, I picked up a bright blue shade using a packing brush and put it on the inner and outer corners of the eyelids, leaving a blank space in the middle. I decided to go with a glittery, light pink on the middle of the eyes, packing that on with my finger to get the best pay-off from that pigment. I made sure to go back and blend the edges of each shade together so that it doesn’t look too blunt. I then went in with a shimmery pearl color on the inner corners of the eyes and finished it off with a mauve pink color on the outer corners of the lower lash lines.

Loud and Proud!

I had the most fun creating this look! I decided to go all out and put bright eyeshadows on places where you conventionally wouldn’t put them. I’d say this look isn’t for the faint of heart as this is more of an “editorial” look, but once you build up the courage to sport bolder and colorful looks out in public, this might be one you’d want to try out and enjoy!

I started off with a wash of yellow on the crease with a blending brush. Then, I took a red and placed that on the hollow area of the eyes that sort of connects to your nose (that is the best way I can explain that space). I then took a green and placed that on the outer corners, just above the fold of my eyes. I made sure those colors didn’t look too harsh by blending them out a bit. After that, I took a shimmery light pink and put that all over the eyelids.

For the lower lash lines, instead of blending it out like I normally would, I decided to do something different. With a small angled brush, I created a blunt, straight line outwards with a blue shade. I thought it was a nice contrast from everything I’ve got going on on top of my eyes.

Makeup is such a powerful, wonderful thing. It’s forgiving and ever-evolving. The great thing about makeup is that when you make a mistake or don’t love the outcome, you can just wash it off and try again. So have fun with it and experiment to your heart’s content!

In case you’re interested to know which palettes I use: I used Colourpop’s So Jaded Pressed Powder Palette and IMAGIC’s Chalice 36-Color Eyeshadow Palette for all these looks.
