When we think of Halloween, we automatically think of scary costumes and makeup, without realizing that another thing that completes the mood and vibe is the set design. And by set design, we don’t only mean a set-up or installation somewhere public. It can also mean a creative setup at home. With the pandemic still lingering, it’s always better to make the safest choice which is to stay at home or indoors and that is absolutely not a thing to worry about.

Read on as I share with you some easy-to-do home decor ideas that’ll help you spruce up the Halloween season at home.

A Bubbling Cauldron

For a more Pinoy decoration, try a bubbling cauldron. This bubbling cauldron is mostly seen in films involving a mangkukulam or a witch performing her magic. This can absolutely scare the crap out of kids when trick or treating. 

All you need:

• Cauldron and ladle 
• Dry ice
• Fake cobwebs

All you have to do:

• Place your dry ice into the cauldron for a smoke effect
• Put some fake cobwebs around the cauldron and the area where you’re planning to mount it

Eerie Living Room

Nothing like the spooky and eerie vibe of an abandoned home in movies, right? Well, guess what! Your living room can effortlessly be your eerie Halloween masterpiece. It’s the “less is more” trick for this decor. 

All you need:

• Your existing couch and chairs
• White cloth
• Fake cobwebs
• Candles 

All you have to do:

• Cover your couch and chairs with white fabric or cloth and cobwebs 
• Put some candles around the area 

Pumpkin Pop-ups 

This is a no-brainer. Every time Halloween comes around, this is a default thing that first comes to mind. You can put random pumpkin pop-ups in areas of your home that are not often frequented by many, like the attic, storage area, or garage, for a really spooky effect. And no, you don’t have to spend much on plastic decorative pumpkins because you can get creative with school supply finds.

All you need:

• Orange balloons, white glue, yellow and orange Japanese paper, cutter, pencil, paintbrush, and battery-powered votive candles

All you have to do:

• Inflate the balloon, attach the strips of Japanese paper, and coat it with glue until the whole balloon is covered. 
• Once it’s dry, pop the balloon and pull it out of the decoupage. 
• Using the cutter, cut out the base and lid of the pumpkin and carve out its nose, eyes, and mouth, and cover it with yellow Japanese paper. 
• Light it up! Use a battery-powered votive candle and put it inside the pumpkin to complete the look!

Bloody Candles 

The pumpkin pop-ups and the eerie living room definitely go well with large chunky candles that are dripping with blood. Pick white large candles and red ones. You can also use these as centerpieces when you host a Halloween get-together with the family. 

All you need:

• Large white candles
• Red candles
• Old newspapers

All you have to do:

• Melt the red ones and let them drip onto the white ones to mimic the blood
