6 Holiday Games For A Merry Elfin’ Christmas

Looking for games to make your Christmas parties more fun? Dianne Capuno lists down some popular ones to add to your program.

It’s the holiday season once again! And now, we are finally back to spending one of the most wonderful times of the year with the people we love (of course, safely and cautiously still). There will definitely be festivities and get-togethers here and there that will bring the Yuletide fun.

But what can add more to the fun? Games, for sure! Whether it’s for your parties or something to keep you company while waiting for the clock to strike 12, we’ve got you covered! Here are some Christmas games you and everybody else—no matter the age—might enjoy.

Charades

This one is a classic party game that is perfect for big groups. Charades require one person to act out the word or phrase and the rest of the group to guess. You can divide yourselves into two or more groups and whoever guesses the most words or phrases wins the game. From Christmas characters like The Grinch to Christmas carols like Silent Night, the themes could be endless for this game! All you have to do is let the imagination flow.

Trip to Jerusalem

Also known as musical chairs, this game only needs a bunch of players, chairs, a big space, and music. Chairs are formed into a big circle with one less than the total number of players. All you have to do is dance to the music as you go around them, and stop and drop (literally) when the music stops. The person who doesn’t get to sit on a chair is out and you take out another chair for the next round. The game goes on until there’s one winner. This is such an enjoyable game especially as the competition gets fiercer and fiercer. It’s gonna get competitive—you’ve been warned!

Message Relay

This game is easy and interesting. Groups just have to form a line facing the back while the first person in line receives the message. The first player taps the next player to send the message as accurately as they can until it reaches the last player who will then shout out the message they received. To make it hard, you can use long sentences such as lyrics from Christmas songs. If you’re familiar with Shouting in Silence (a game in a lot of Korean variety shows), you can also do the same by just adding the rule that every member must wear earphones with music playing at maximum volume to make it harder.

Paper Dance

If you’re in for another dancing game, paper dance is another party staple. All you need is to assemble the group into pairs and give each pair a newspaper (or any large piece of paper). The pairs dance to the music away from the spread and have to fit themselves on it once the music stops, then stay there. If the pair survives, they have to fold the paper in half for the next round. A pair loses when even one of their feet touches the outside of the paper’s perimeter. This could get entertainingly chaotic but, surely, you will all grow closer with this game.

Paint Me a Picture

Don’t worry! The drawing skills are not the point of this game. It’s a group game where the host picks out a word or phrase and the group has to form a picture among themselves depicting that word or phrase. Sticking with the Christmas theme, you could go with phrases like Simbang Gabi or gift shopping, and a lot more. You are going to need judges for this as they will be honoring the point to whoever has the closest or most understandable portrayal. Your coordination, imagination, and creativity will really be put to the test.

Holiday Bingo

Do you want a chill game without moving around a lot? Then, the holiday bingo is for you and the squad. There are a lot of Christmas-related things out there you can use for the bingo like caroling around the neighborhood or eating Puto Bumbong, and so much more. The goal is to complete a line, complete all, or the one with the most bingos. You can create a template of a bingo card, search the Internet for one, or fold fingers; just pick the most convenient option. It’s basically all up to you!
