Just one line from her and you’d totally find yourself in a trance. Her voice is soothing yet cheery and oh-so-familiar. She sounds like home. It’s because she has voiced hundreds of commercials and big events in Cebu.
June Rabin is one of the most recognizable voices in the Queen City of the South. If you haven’t seen her host weddings or the biggest events in Cebu, chances are you’ve heard her in one of the radio commercials.
Being on stage and hosting isn’t entirely new to June. Growing up, she was used to hosting family events and joining speech competitions in school. It helped her gain confidence at a young age, which proved to be important for her future career. What most people don’t know about June is that she is a registered nurse. However, she still decided to pursue this path; after the final day of the nursing board exams, she immediately started training.
However, she wasn’t always a jock. She originally wanted to become a newscaster when she was young because she was a fan of Y101’s Dr. Mandy. Her first job after college was as a newscaster for Kiss FM. She then got tired and asked her former boss if she could be a disc jockey. And, as they say, the rest is history.
Her love for music makes her line of work feel like not a job. She enjoys playing music that people appreciate while spreading good vibes through these songs.
“That is why I take time to have a good mix when I’m on the radio so everyone gets that ‘natural high’ because life is already difficult as it is,” she said.
She has hosted too many events to count but one of her most favorite projects was an event during the APEC Summit. It was a show for the ministers where they showcased the best of Cebu and how we rose during Yolanda. The performance was a story of hope and surviving.
“It was so dramatic I nearly choked in the middle of a voiceover,” she noted.
Although June is at the top of her game as a voice talent, a host, and a jock, she confesses that the journey was tough for her. Because she wasn’t a Mass Communication graduate, she didn’t know a lot. However, she endured it all to learn from the best. Everything she learned along the way was priceless in laying out the foundation for everything she knows now.
“I don’t regret anything because it made me who I am,” she added.
She’s thankful for all the opportunities that came her way and the people who’ve shared their expertise. Her parents have also been the pillars of her career. They’re ever-supportive of her and allowed her to follow her dreams even if that meant not pursuing what she studied in college for.
When June’s not busy with work, she sleeps, watches K-Dramas, and enjoys anything BTS and SEVENTEEN.
