This time of year, everyone and their mom’s grandparents’ grandparents are blasting their speakers with some good ol’ Christmas music.
With this, I raise an important question. Haven’t you had enough of the Jose Mari Chan and Mariah Carey tunes being overplayed everywhere? No? That’s fair. But! If you’re looking for some more variety of songs to play in all your holiday festivities, I’ve got some I think you might like.
This list has something for everybody, so strap in, and be sure to give these numbers a listen!
Mandaue Nights – Padayon Ang Pasko
Released in December 2020, this Christmas song was meant to instill hope and warmth in the Bisaya people in spite of the loneliness and adversity that we’ve felt throughout the pandemic. This track is sure to help remind you of the true spirit of this beloved season!
BLASTER – Pasko’y Hindi Na Masaya
Here’s a depressing one for you. For all those who dread this time of year, this song could provide some comfort in the fact that not everybody is all that merry, definitely. It also gives off such a cosmic, nostalgic vibe. Discovering this tune was a treat; it’s one of my faves on the list.
Oh Wonder – This Christmas
For the ones who are unable to spend the holidays together with their loved ones to share all the cozy feels, this one will hit you right in the heart. Oh Wonder has always had a way of making their listeners feel seen and reassured with their songs, and this masterpiece is no exception. May this song provide some semblance of a warm hug to those who need it the most.
beabadoobee – Winter Wonderland
I love a good, festive cover. Especially when it’s done adorably by a favorite artist of mine. Bea’s voice serves this classic song perfectly, it’s sure to put you in the most festive mood. I’d recommend cheerfully bopping to this anytime!
Sigrid – Home To You (This Christmas)
Sigrid’s got one of the most incredible voices out there, it’s only right that she came out with a Christmas song. This one especially has got some strong “blast-in-the-car”, “sing-at-the-top-of-your-lungs” potential. I guarantee this sweet track could be your next Christmas staple!
Caroline Polachek – So Cold You’re Hurting My Feelings
I present to you–a fun, Christmas-ification of one of the best-written modern pop songs. The original, called So Hot You’re Hurting My Feelings, is one of my favorite songs ever, and discovering this version gave me quite a laugh. Not gonna lie, this is more of a jokey addition to the list (and more for the Caroline Polacheck stans especially), but who knows? Maybe one of you guys could jam to it–and the original!
