Imagine Me and You
Imagine Me and You is a 2005 British comedy-drama that revolves around the question: Can I fall for someone of the same sex? With the thought of it, it might seem like your typical coming-of-age film but it takes a twist when Rachel, a married woman, starts coming to terms with her sexuality and maneuvers life with her discovery.
Call Me By Your Name
It’s easy to watch this one primarily because of Timothée Chamalet but there’s more than what meets the eye with the actor’s charm. This lighthearted film hits home for a lot of people in the community as it gets them reminiscing their first love and how in finding love in others, we find ourselves growing.
The Danish Girl
This film pays tribute to the life, marriage, and death of Lili Elbe, one of the first few Danish artists who underwent gender reassignment in the 1880s which shocked the world as it attempted to do something that has never been done before. Of course, it comes as no surprise as Eddie Redmayne portrays the iconic painter who first told the world that being gay, indeed, is okay.
Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros
Maxi is openly gay. He proudly expresses himself with his style and mannerism. Though this does not pose a problem, everything turns sour when he forms a crush on a policeman who soon investigates his family’s criminal activities. Will he choose love? Family? Who knows, Maxi might teach you a thing or two.
Happiest Season
It’s refreshing to see Kristen Stewart on screen again and this time, proving her acting prowess as she plays a young woman who wants to propose to her girlfriend. While it’s true that the holidays are the best season to proclaim one’s love, it can be quite tricky when her girlfriend’s conservative family neither knows about their relationship or sexuality… yet.
Baka Bukas
In this progressive film, Jasmine Curtis plays the role of the modern-day creative who is out to everyone except her best friend. Once her secret was revealed, they must now find a way to confront and work with their feelings. It’s amazing to see a Filipino film portray members of the LGBTQ community as themselves and not as the typical loud and lewd stereotype.
Billie and Emma
This one might be easy to spot: a girl meets a girl, the popular student hanging out with the goth one trope with one of them emerging from Manila. But don’t let this fool you as it runs deeper than its cliches. It talks about young love and its complexities as they both face challenges they’re both more than willing to take
And that’s it for our list! Be sure to get your snacks and tissues ready as you enjoy a rollercoaster of emotions that’s sure to change your perspective on LGBTQ+ relationships. Have your own favorites? Tag us on Instagram and let us know.
