“Ugh, I wish I had her confidence!” you say while gawking at this person’s drip on Instagram.
How many times has it happened where you hesitate then refrain from wearing something just because “you didn’t have the confidence” for it, or it was “too out of your style” so you immediately assumed that it won’t suit you?
Fashion fears are a real thing.
Regardless of body type, everyone deals with it. Even the most fashionable individuals can attest that they too, have at one point or another, doubted their own style.
Living in a country that’s full of Mariteses waiting to pounce on you the second you get an ounce-worth of confidence to wear something that’s “unconventional” or “out of the ordinary” can be difficult. The scrutiny and snide remarks get into our heads and make it difficult to experiment, thrive, and grow.
However, you shouldn’t also allow yourself to shrink– let alone allow others to dictate how you should dress! What’s the point in living if you’re always going for someone’s worthless approval?
Here are five ways on how to lose your fashion fears!
1. Try it on!
Haunting, but encouragingly haunting. You’ll never know how an item looks on you unless you wear it.
Try to be in your best posture and just observe how it looks, how it feels on you. When the feeling is right…
2. Listen to your heart
Cheesy, yes. Wrong, no!
If the item feels just right; if it makes you smile from ear to ear; if you can’t stop looking at yourself in the mirror appreciating every fit, flaw, bulge, tone, and whatever in between—get it.
So what if ruffles aren’t trendy right now? Who cares if you’re a plus-size woman in love with a cropped top? If it fills your heart with so much happiness it actually radiates through you, that’s when you know that you need to purchase it.

3. Mute the unnecessary noise
The great philosopher Ariana Grande said, “I want it, I got it.”
Your body, your money, your rules, sister! The only critic you should be listening to is you. Drown out all those negative comments about how a certain outfit doesn’t suit you. If it doesn’t add value, then don’t even bother getting affected. There should only be one critic in the room and that is you— and only you.
4. Take it one day at a time
Being confident and adventuresome does not come overnight. Take it easy, take it one day at a time. Don’t rush, it’s okay.
Personally, I only started wearing halter tops in 2016 and I always covered it up with jackets. I was insecure! However, I slowly started enjoying the “freedom” that came with wearing halter tops. It was a top made in heaven!
5. Love yourself
At the end of the day, it’s all about loving and accepting yourself.
These “flaws” initially projected to be ugly, imperfect and said to make you less of a woman or man don’t mean anything. These “flaws” are a unique part of you; an abundance of beauty as a matter of fact.
Remember that clothes don’t make the person—it’s the other way around. Start by creating a happy and secure foundation about yourself within yourself and the rest will just fall into place.
Until then, venture into the fun, wild world of fashion.
