Mind Your Breathing: Essential Oils for Every Need

Mind Your Breathing: Essential Oils for Every Need

g.spot PH talks to Marymil Cabrera of Anapanasati to discover five essential oils to kick off our aromatherapy journey.

Therapy: Expensive

Essential oils: Not quite expensive

Yeah, yeah, we know—there’s less expensive therapy? Yes! No cap.

These days, we are once again faced with the onslaught of rising cases (ugh), new variants (2020, is that you?), and heightened restrictions of community quarantine (been there, done that—essentially an expert). However, it is undeniable that the sudden shift of the now partially-closed world has gotten the better of our individual energies.

A good sniff can instantly get you in the zone. For many years, people have used aromatherapy to improve their wellbeing, energy, and daily performance. Whether it’s for your everyday meditation sesh or just a simple mood-booster from a looong day (slash days. Or weeks. Or months. We’re here for you, honey.) your favorite scent can give you the cosmic push you needed.

g.spot PH got in touch with Marymil Cabrera of Anapanasati, a local brand specializing in aromatherapy service, to share with us just why scents not only smell good but how they can also be inexpensive therapy.

The key is mindful breathing. “Mindful breathing is a very basic yet powerful mindfulness meditation practice. The idea is simply to focus your attention on your breathing—to its natural rhythm and flow and the way it feels on each inhale and exhale,” she shared.

Although this sounds too easy, this needs a lot of focus and concentration—and an itty bit of your favorite scents.

“Aromatherapy can help you achieve this,” she added. Even with a price range between Php 100.00 to Php 350.00, Anapanasati promises nothing but the best quality oils so you can maximize their benefits.

Here are some scents and blends you can also use to help you find your zen:

Peppermint oil for good sleep

Some nights can be pretty long and cold, too. Nothing a good drop or two of peppermint oil can ease. Add to your diffusers, or to a cotton ball on your bedside for some sweet dreams. When working out, have it by your yoga mat to help improve exercise performance. It’s also good for migraines.

Lavender and chamomile oil to ease the tension

One of the more popular and versatile scents, lavender can help boost your mood when you’re feeling blue. According to Healthline, a sniff of lavender promotes relaxation and can ease anxiety. Apply a small amount to your finger and dab onto your wrists, behind the ears, and on the nape of the neck. Not only that, it can act as a topical ointment for your allergies and other skin infections.

Chamomile also is known for its relaxing effects and blends well with lavender for the ultimate good vibes.

Tea tree oil to freshen the atmosphere

Tea tree oil is known for its soothing properties especially for skin irritations such as acne, skin allergies, and insect bites. However, it can also be used for an easy aromatherapy session to purify and freshen the air in any room in your home. Add three to four drops to your choice of diffuser for a fresher mood.

Citronella oil to bug off bugs

The world may have changed but the fact that mosquitoes are still annoying hasn’t! Citronella is a natural insect repellent to keep those nasty biters away. Blend it with some rosemary oil, and not a sight of reddish spots will surely be in view.

Sandalwood oil for better days

Sandalwood is also one of the popular scents that helps ease off anxiety. A study in Vienna showed that participants’ blood pressure and cortisol levels in their saliva lowered after an aromatherapy session of sandalwood and lavender scents. Add two to three drops to your diffuser after a loaded day and just be.

You can grab all of these scents and blends on Anapanasati! They’re a dedicated Cebuano brand that offers aromatherapy services for your mindful breathing sessions. Plus, they only use eco-friendly materials such as newspapers, old magazines, and boxes for their packaging.

As a simple way of helping save Mother Earth, Anapanasati is giving away 10% off for refills (yes, they do refills!), or in exchange for your empty essential oil bottle.
